San Antonio woman dies after being shot through apartment wall on 30th birthday

Amir Muhammad Rasul Powell, 25, taken into police custody

SAN ANTONIO – A local woman is dead a day after her birthday and a man has been arrested following a shooting at a North Side apartment complex late Wednesday night.

The shooting occurred just before 10 p.m. at the Casa de Encanto Apartments, in the 10300 block of Sahara Drive, not far from Isom Road and Highway 281.

According to police, Amir Muhammad Rasul Powell, 25, was inside an apartment with a woman when he became upset while looking through her cellphone.

Police said Powell physically assaulted the woman before getting a gun and firing multiple times, aiming the weapon at the wall. At least one of the bullets went through the wall of the apartment, through a vacant apartment and then into the victim's apartment, police said.

Shawana Robinson, 30, was inside her own apartment and was shot in the stomach. She was taken to University Hospital in critical condition, where she later died. According to the Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office, her birthday was Wednesday.

Police said Powell fled in a maroon Kia Forte after the shooting, taking both the gun and the cellphone with him.

Officers traced the shooting back to Powell's apartment, where they found and interviewed the woman inside. The woman gave police Powell's name and a description of the vehicle he was driving.

A short time later, authorities tracked down the vehicle and took Powell into custody without incident.

Powell has been charged with murder and assault-bodily injury. His bond is set at more than $450,000.
