Family: 'Relieved to put a face to evil'

Court documents state victim, suspect were together Saturday

SAN ANTONIO – The family of Rodolfo Mendiola IV said they have a lot of unanswered questions after he was beaten and shot.

Mendiola’s body was found Sunday at a home in the 15000 block of Trawalter Road.

"It's heartbreaking. There’s no other way to describe it," said Christine Ortega, Mendiola's aunt.

Bexar County sheriff’s investigators arrested 19-year-old Jonathan Moreno Wednesday afternoon. They said they believe he is the man responsible for Mendiola's death.

Moreno faces capital murder charges in this case.

"We are relieved to put a face to evil. This should not happen to anyone," Ortega said.

Court papers stated Moreno and Mendiola knew each other and were together at Mendiola's house on Saturday. A third person was also with them.

"It's believed, based on some of the witness statements that we have, that these three individuals had gone to the home to obtain some Xanax bars. I don't know if they were friends, if they were associates," said Bexar County Sheriff's Office spokesman James Keith.

Ortega said the family will remain vigilant and hopes to learn more as the investigation continues.

"One of the things that we are still doing is asking if anybody knows anything. If anybody saw anything. The investigation is not over," Ortega said.

Moreno’s bond was set at $1 million.
