Driver suffering medical episode strikes pedestrian, column before vehicle catches fire on Northwest Side

Both pedestrian and driver hospitalized in critical condition

SAN ANTONIO – A driver and a pedestrian were hospitalized Friday afternoon after an accident and car fire on the Northwest Side.

San Antonio police said a woman was crossing the southbound access road of Loop 410 at Evers Road when she was struck by a pickup truck just before noon.

The driver of the truck was suffering from a medical episode, police said.

A witness said the driver wasn’t going excessively fast but was swerving when the woman was struck.

The truck then struck a flyover column and caught fire.

Both victims, whose ages are unknown, were transported to the hospital in critical condition.
