16-year-old shot in head, other teen wounded in arm

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police are searching for a gunman who shot two teenagers near the playground of a West Side apartment complex.

Officers who responded to the 911 call around 1:30 a.m. Friday found one victim lying on the grass of the Westway Apartments, located in the 5600 block of Culebra Road.

They say the 16-year-old boy had been shot in his head.

As they began to investigate, they received a call about another shooting victim at a gas station around the corner.

Police say at that business, located at Culebra and Callaghan roads, they found a 17-year-old boy who had been shot in the arm.

They believe both victims were shot by the same gunman, described as a man dressed all in black and armed with a rifle.

The teen who was shot in the arm was able to run to the gas station to get help.

Police say both victims were taken to a hospital for treatment.

They described the wound of the younger victim, the teen who was shot in the head, as being life-threatening.

The shooter, who was gone when officers arrived, was not found.
