Fight inside East Side bar led to deadly shooting of woman, police say

Victim identified as Samantha Gonzales, 27

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police say a woman who died after being shot outside an East Side bar was among a group of people who earlier had been involved in a fight inside the business.

They found Samantha Gonzales, 27, in the back seat of a car in the 800 block of Hammond Avenue.

Officers were responding to a call about a shooting in progress around midnight when they found her there.

However, they soon learned that she had not been shot at that location.

Police linked her death to a shooting outside a bar just down the road, in the 1500 block of South Gevers Street.

They say she was among a group who had been fighting with other people.

Both groups were kicked out of the bar for that reason.

A preliminary police report says soon after, a man in a car fired shots at the vehicle that contained Gonzales and her friends.

It says she was hit several times and died of her wounds.

Officers at the scene said at least one shot hit her in her head as she sat in the back seat of the car.

Her friends left the scene, but pulled over to call for help after realizing she had been hit.

The shooter also drove off, apparently before anyone could get a description of him.

As of late Monday morning, police said they did not have any information on him and they had not made any arrests.
