Driver tries to flee traffic stop, crashes into turnaround on Loop 410 access road, police say

Crash happened around 3:40 a.m. near Airport Boulevard

SAN ANTONIO – A female driver was detained on suspicion of DWI following a vehicle crash on the Loop 410 access road early Tuesday morning, according to Castle Hills police.

The crash happened around 3:40 a.m. near Airport Boulevard and the Highway 281 interchange.

According to police, a Castle Hills police officer had attempted to make a traffic stop after seeing the vehicle in the main lanes of Loop 410. That’s when, police say, as the officer approached the vehicle, the driver instead sped off.

Police said the Castle Hills officer caught up with the car after she crashed into the wall of a turnaround.

CHPD said the driver was taken into custody on suspicion of DWI after being evaluated at the scene. The woman’s name has not been released. It is also unclear as to what other charges she may face.

A passenger inside the vehicle was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. A third person was not hurt.

The Castle Hills Police Department, the San Antonio Fire Department and EMS all worked the call.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing, police said.
