SAN ANTONIO - A driver avoided serious injury after he rolled his sport utility vehicle over and landed upside down in a grassy area of the Loop 410 access road, San Antonio police said. According to the police, the driver of the SUV told them the crash occurred when a car cut him off as he exited eastbound at Broadway. A CPS Energy crew is at the scene looking at some lights in the immediate area. It's unclear if the crash knocked the power out. Police have blocked one lane of the access road, but it's not really affecting traffic.
Sweat at scene of bank robbery used to help in identifying suspect, police say
SAN ANTONIO - Sweat helped San Antonio police crack the case of a bank robbery that happened in December 2018 at the Comerica Bank near Blanco Road and Loop 410. An arrest affidavit states that, during the robbery, Erick Sanchez handed an employee an envelope containing a written demand for cash. The employee gave him the money and Sanchez left the area, the affidavit says. Investigators said Sanchez was sweating profusely and his sweat dripped onto the counter. They used that evidence, along with pictures, to confirm Sanchez was their suspect.
Man, 30, killed while crossing I-10 identified
SAN ANTONIO - A man killed while crossing I-10 over the weekend has been identified by the medical examiner. Police said 30-year-old Rudy Phillip Alexander Villanueva was crossing I-10, north of Loop 410, early Saturday morning when a driver in a Ford Explorer traveling eastg struck the man. SAN ANTONIO - UPDATE: The medical examiner has identified the two people killed in a shooting that stemmed from an argument between three people on the city's East Side. The 18-year-old killed was identified as Devion Webb, and the 40-year-old man fatally shot was identified as Charles Johnson, according to the medical examiner. (Previously)Two people are dead and one person was taken to the hospital after an argument led to a shooting on the citys East Side, San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said. The shooting happened just before 8 p.m. in the 4500 block of Lakewood Drive, just west of Loop 410. The man shot in the face was taken to Brooke Army Medical Center.
Converse police car stolen, 1 suspect in custody
One suspect is in custody after a Converse police car was stolen Saturday afternoon. Converse police spotted a red sedan traveling in the wrong way in the 8000 block of FM Road 78, Chief Fidel Villegas said. The driver tried to flee the scene in the car, but he and a passenger bailed out of the car by Anteris Park, Villegas said. The passenger ran on foot, but the driver pushed a Converse police officer and stole the police car. The driver reached speeds of 80 mph before the car rolled over near I-35 South and Loop 410.

Two people in hospital after truck nose-dives into Loop 410
SAN ANTONIO - San Antonio police are looking into what led a driver to lose control and crash his truck on the West Side. Police said that, around 11:40 p.m. Friday, two men were on the access road of Loop 410, between Ingram and Bandera roads, when the driver lost control, went up the embankment, and nose-dived into the eastbound main lanes of Loop 410. BEXAR COUNTY, Texas - Two 15-year-old suspects were detained after a Corvette was carjacked at gunpoint, the Bexar County Sheriffs Office said. A teen driver led BCSO deputies on a chase for 10 minutes before wrecking out on the East Side near I-10 and Loop 410. Two weapons were recovered from the car. SAN ANTONIO - CPS Energy is warning drivers to expect delays on a stretch of Loop 410 on Sunday. Crews with the utility company will be spanning high voltage electric lines across Loop 410 between Bandera Road and Ingram Road. The work will lead to intermittent lane closures between 6:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.Traffic could be stopped for 15 to 20 minutes during each rolling roadblock. A rolling roadblock, also known as a temporary road closure, rolling block, pacing operation, or traffic pacing, is a common highway traffic control technique used to temporarily slow or stop traffic upstream of construction, maintenance, and utility work activities requiring a short-term full closure of the roadway and/or lanes. -CPS EnergyThe work is not expected to cause any power interruptions in the area.
2 women in critical condition after high-speed crash that launched SUV over the interstate
Police said the impact caused the SUV to go airborne and cross both the northbound and southbound lanes of the interstate before landing on the southbound frontage road of Loop 410. Both she and the driver of the car that was hit are in critical condition at University Hospital. Police said the man driving the SUV was ejected during the crash, but he only had minor injuries and was talking to officers on the scene. The crash caused both southbound and northbound lanes of Loop 410 to close, but they have since reopened. Investigators are looking into the driver of the SUV and what caused the crash.
Community calls for improvements along Roosevelt Avenue on South Side
SAN ANTONIO - A South Side community is starting to see positive changes along a deadly stretch of road. Olga Martinez, president of the Villa Coronado Homeowners Association, has been pushing for safety improvements along Roosevelt Avenue. A 2017-2022 bond approved by voters will make improvements to Roosevelt between I-10 and Loop 410. The community is asking that similar improvements be made to the one mile stretch south of Loop 410. They're still going 50, 60, 70 (mph) on Roosevelt, Martinez said.
U.S. Air Force medic saves man's life after he fell off Loop 410
SAN ANTONIO - A U.S. Air Force medic who was driving by when a man fell off Loop 410 rushed to put her medical training to use. Air Force medic Lt. Col. Courtney Lee said her training in the military prepared her for a situation like this. The physician assistant from the 59th Medical Wing was the first medical responder at the scene. The other was constricted, which is a very bad sign in head trauma, very bad, Lee said. Lee was able to stabilize the man and controlled the hemorrhage on his head until emergency medical services arrived 10 minutes later.
