SAN ANTONIO – A San Antonio artist is capturing every day experiences, identities, relationships and spiritual life in a new exhibit.

“I love painting these things about us. In the barrio. It’s positive images. People working. People playing. People singing. People dancing,” Joe Lopez, the artist said.

Lopez paints about every day things happening around him. His art is now on display and is titled “Moments in Time.”

“It’s a tribute to the common man. Just regular people, doing everyday things and enjoying life,” Lopez said.

The exhibit showcasing Lopez’s work almost didn’t happen. His art exhibit was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Lopez said it’s special to have his art pieces showcased at Centro Cultural Aztlan, a place that promotes Chicano/Latino art and culture, as is found along Fredrecksburg Road.

“They promote our culture and they have been doing it for years. Helping artists that don’t get that limelight,” Lopez said.

The exhibit is free and open to the public. It is open from Thursday, April 6 until April 27.
