DWI Task Force in full force as Fiesta 2023 gets underway

It’s the first DWI task force roll call since 2019

San Antonio – A sea of blue and red flooded the Alamo Stadium Wednesday for the 2023 DWI Task Force Roll Call.

Local law enforcement stood in solidarity to remind people to plan ahead and drink responsibly during this year’s Fiesta events.

More than 2.5 million people are expected to attend the 10-day event. The message for this year is “Fiesta Safe. Drive Sober.”

About 20 local agencies and community prevention groups attended the event, standing side by side for one of the largest DWI rollcalls. It’s the first since before the pandemic.

Bexar County reports that more than 1,763 DWI arrests have been made by Bexar County law enforcement agencies since the start of 2023.

Mike Davis with the DWI Task Force said the hope is that everyone will have a plan before they head to a Fiesta event.

“We hope that we don’t have injuries or fatalities because we care about our communities. That’s why we’re here to spread that message,” he said.

More than 100 law enforcement officers from different agencies, including San Antonio Fire, were at the 2023 Fiesta roll call, one of the largest showings ever, said Davis. It’s the first one since 2019.
