Residents escape fire at makeshift home on the Southwest Side

No one was injured

SAN ANTONIO – Residents of a makeshift home on the Southwest Side were able to escape a fire before the structure burned to the ground early Wednesday morning.

The fire started just before 3:30 a.m. in the 800 block of Gladstone Street, not far from Interstate 35 and Division Avenue.

According to the battalion chief, people were living in the metal, shed-like structure that was behind a home.

At some point overnight, the structure caught fire and burned to the ground. The people inside made it out safely, and no injuries were reported.

Firefighters had a tough time getting in because there were three or four dogs that delayed them from reaching the structure.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
