13-year-old boy in critical condition after being wounded in drive-by at West Side home, police say

Shooting happened around 5:30 a.m. in 2200 block of North Calaveras Street

SAN ANTONIO – A 13-year-old boy is in critical condition after being wounded in a drive-by shooting on the city’s West Side early Thursday morning, according to San Antonio police.

The shooting happened around 5:30 a.m. at a home in the 2200 block of North Calaveras Street, not far from Cincinnati Avenue and Woodlawn Lake.

According to police, the teenager was shot in the back while he was moving around in the living room of the home. The rest of the family was still sleeping at the time of the shooting and was not hurt.

Police said the teen was taken by ambulance to an area hospital, where at last check, he was listed in critical condition.

At this time, the motive for the shooting is not currently known. Multiple gunshots were fired at the house.

Detectives are currently on scene canvassing for witnesses, but they do not have a vehicle description.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, police said.
