SAN ANTONIO - Two months after a mother's 26-year-old was found dead in the San Antonio River in the heart of the Riverwalk, the death has been ruled a murder.
With police having a person of interest, Joann McFadden wants people to come forward with clues.
Born Kenneth McFadden, Joann McFadden remembers her child as a woman who called herself "Kenne." Outgoing and always polite, Joann McFadden’s youngest of three children was a lover of poetry and music.
"He would just stand in front of the mirror and he would just sing, and he would practice and he would sing," Joann McFadden said.
Recordings are what's left of Kenne McFadden’s voice. For two months, Joann McFadden has grieved.
"It never ever, ever, ever changed my love for him, because that was my child. That was my baby," Joann McFadden said. "I love him regardless of who or what people thought about him. I love him."
There was a recent breakthrough in the case.
When a river boat driver discovered Kenne McFadden's body in April, police at the time said they couldn't tell what had happened.
The medical examiner now said the cause of death was murder, an apparent drowning caused by someone else.
Police said they have an idea of who did it — a person of interest in jail on unrelated charges in Kenne McFadden’s case.
Police said investigators are "actively working" to charge the person responsible for the murder.
As of now, investigators said they still don't have a motive.
"This will be my continuous message: If they know what happened to him, if somebody know[s] anything, even if they don't think it's important, if they know something, please go to the police," Joann McFadden said.
