QUEMADO, Texas – A crash and an explosion involving an 18-wheeler injured four people, destroyed a home and forced the closure of a highway in Maverick County.
Texas Department of Public Safety officials said a tractor-trailer was traveling southbound on U.S. 277 near the town of Quemado around 2:15 a.m. Monday, when it failed to negotiate a curve and crashed near a home.

The big rig, which was carrying airbag detonators, exploded into flames, officials said. A nearby home and a passing vehicle caught fire.
The driver and a passenger of the 18-wheeler were transported to a hospital, officials said. Two people in the passing vehicle were airlifted to a San Antonio hospital.
Emergency personnel are searching the house for a possible victim, officials said.
The highway was expected to be closed for about six hours, the Eagle Pass News Gram reported. Motorists will be detoured to Farm to Market Road 1644 and back to Highway 277.
