SAN ANTONIO – St. Gregory the Great Catholic School in San Antonio is just one of the many organizations working to help residents along the coast and in East Texas dealing with Harvey’s destruction.

The school sent out a note to the community Tuesday asking for help to get Most Precious Blood Catholic School in Corpus Christi back on its feet, and in just under four hours, they were overwhelmed with donations, St. Gregory administrators said.

Most Precious Blood had severe water damage, which caused destroyed carpets, books, and school supplies.

St. Gregory administrators said students approached them wanting to help so they’re gathering supplies until Friday morning.

Principal Daniel Martinez said he will personally deliver supplies to Most Precious Blood school administrators.

"Here in south Texas, we all have family members and extended family that have been effected by Hurricane Harvey and as soon as we realized that here in San Antonio (and) we were pretty much in the clear for the bad weather, I had an immediate outpouring of emails from parents and community members, saying ‘What can we do to help?’” Martinez said.

They are looking for books for students from Pre-K 3 through 5th grade, and all other supplies, including pencils, erasers and notebooks.

Teachers will also need supplies, including dry-erase markers, notebooks, copy paper and pens.

Donations will also be taken to purchase carpeting.
