SAN ANTONIO – The South San Antonio Independent School District School Board will vote Wednesday night on the closing of three schools.

The superintendent and his staff were taking questions on their case for closing Athens Elementary School, Kazen Middle School and the alternative school.

School officials said Athens Elementary would consolidate with Carillo and Price elementary schools, while Kazen Middle School would consolidate with Zamora and Dwight middle schools.

Superintendent Abelardo Saavedra and his staff have argued that falling enrollment numbers have created underused classrooms and wasted money.
