Texas receives overwhelming support from other states for Harvey relief

New York, Hawaii, California, Florida, other states sending help to Texas

SAN ANTONIO – From across the Pacific Ocean to the northeastern tip of the United States, support from all over is being deployed to help with Harvey relief in Texas.

More than 25 states have sent first responders and volunteers to help with the rescue and recovery effort, with some coming from as far as Hawaii and New York.

The crew will await orders in San Antonio and bring “boats, motors, dry suits, rescue equipment for collapsed structures, rope equipment for confined spaces, and a large compilation of Haz-Mat equipment,” according to the Facebook post.

In a tweet sent by the Hawaii Red Cross Twitter page, one volunteer from the Big Island was sent Sunday and “seven other volunteers from the Big Island, Maui, Molokai and Oahu” will also soon deploy to help with Harvey relief.

On Sunday, Facebook user Heather Axtell Godwin shared photos and video to her page of “huge units from Tennessee and Nebraska” with “hundreds of people, at least 20 vans, multiple trucks pulling FEMA boats, charter buses and many semis (trucks).”

According to Godwin’s post, her and her family were on their way to drop off her niece at Texas A&M University in Corpus Christi when they stopped at a Love’s Truck Shop off Interstate 10.
