Woman killed by gun shots on East Side called 'very friendly'

SAPD has ‘possible suspect' in mind in death of Desirre Allen, 35

SAN ANTONIO – The name of a woman who was killed when someone fired shots through the window of her East Side apartment has been released.

The medical examiner identified her as Desirre Allen, 35.

San Antonio police found her, critically wounded, inside her apartment in the 2900 block of Rigsby Avenue.

Allen died at a hospital around 2 a.m. Wednesday, about a half hour after she was shot.

They said someone outside fired the shots through a window, hitting her.

"About nine shots, rapid fire. One right after the other,” said Wendy Bishop, who woke up to the gunfire. "That's extremely crazy, especially since this is an area that's full of children. I mean, we're an apartment complex that is full of life and full of children. "

Bishop said her neighbor, Allen, had three children. She described her as a dedicated mother, a good neighbor and good person.

“She really minds her own business and she's very friendly, you know,” she said.

Bishop said she is at her wits’ end when it comes to explaining the reason for the shooting.

Police also are searching for answers.

According to their report, officers spoke to several witness who identified a “possible suspect.”  As of late Wednesday morning, however, they had not arrested anyone.

"It's pretty sad, I mean, all the way around. And I would be interested too to find out why someone felt justified for a mother of three to have to die,” Bishop said.
