Inspirational Success Story From TSAOG Patient

Over a period of two to three weeks, Joseph Glavan went from complete health at 91 to not being able to walk, feed himself.

Dr. Adewale Adeniran, Spinal Surgeon, looked at Glavan's MRI's and x-rays and told him he had extreme Cervical Myelopathy, which called for an Anterior Cervical Discectomy Fusion procedure.

Glavan had the procedure and it brought him back to life, and lifted his spirits up!

If I didn't have this surgery, I would be dead.

Katrina Glavan-Heise, Joseph Glavan's daughter, said that her dad can now play cards with his friends, go on field trips now, do his own laundry, and can dress himself now.

This is wonderful, because he doesn't need anyone to do anything for him anymore. That's the best part!

What exactly is Cervical Myelopathy??

According to Dr. Adeniran, Cervical Myelopathy is when the spinal cord runs in your neck and is being compressed by a number of reasons.

Most commonly it's a symptom of arthritis in your neck which narrows the space for the spinal canal, and squeezes the spinal cord to death.

Tell me what the symptoms of Cervical Myelopathy are, this is good information to be aware of.

Symptoms:

  • Lack of balance

  • Loss of motor skills (hands, legs)

  • Loss of bladder control

What is the procedure & results like for Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion?

Dr. Adeniran said the procedure is not invasive and that most people go home the next day.
