SAN ANTONIO – If you’re a Dallas Cowboys fan and watched Sunday’s loss to the Green Bay Packers, then you’ll recall the moment when star wide receiver Jordy Nelson reeled in a touchdown in the fourth quarter to help the Packers take their first lead over the Cowboys.

Statistically, Nelson may not have been a factor on the field but if you ask Judge David. A Canales, of the 73rd District Court in Bexar County, he made a huge impact off the field days before the big game for one San Antonio baby girl.

On Oct. 6, Judge Canales shared a Facebook post saying, “Among the many things I get to do as a judge, one of my favorite is presiding over adoptions.”

“Today I was blessed to have Emily and Jordy Nelson come before me to adopt (baby girl)! This is a wonderful couple and a beautiful family. Congratulations to the Nelsons! They personify service and exemplify love. #ILoveAdoptions.”

Since birth, the baby girl has been living with the Nelson family, according to Nelson's agent. Friday's visit in San Antonio in front of Canales was to finalize her adoption after fostering the baby for seven months.

In Texas, state law requires a child to live with his/her adoptive parents for at least six months before the adoption is finalized.

According to Jockey International -- a clothing brand that makes underwear and sleepwear for men, women and children -- Nelson, a Super Bowl champion, has been serving as an ambassador, raising awareness of the company’s Jockey Being Family Foundation and the need for postadoption services.

Jockey Being Family Foundation was created to “strengthen adoptive families through post-adoptive services by funding national and local adoption-related nonprofit organizations,” according to the charity’s website.

Shortly after announcing Nelson as its ambassador, Jockey uploaded a video on its YouTube page of him sharing his passion and personal connection to adoption.

“So, the reason why my wife and I decided to adopt was we wanted to continue to grow our family. After we had Royal, our biological child, we were unable to get pregnant again,” Nelson said in the video.

“We just figured adoption was a great way for us to grow our family.”

Nelson and his wife welcomed their son Brooks in Feb. 2015. The newest addition to their family is the couple’s third child and second adoption.

Many on Facebook have been sharing their excitement with Canales, with one person saying, “Jordy Nelson seems to be as good a human being as he is a receiver.”

Another Facebook user said, “Love it! I have Jordy on my fantasy (and) he is a great role model. Congrats to the Nelson’s.”
