What Gigi Hadid Reportedly Told the Judge About Serving on Harvey Weinstein's Sex Crimes Case
After being summoned for jury duty in Manhattan to potentially serve as a juror on the sex crimes case against movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, Gigi Hadid was dismissed from service on Thursday. The 24-year-old supermodel caused a stir this week when she was summoned to court as a potential juror. Weinstein's lawyers want trial moved, calling it a 'circus'
Supermodel Gigi Hadid arrives at a Manhattan courthouse for Harvey Weinstein's jury selection in his trial on rape and sexual assault charges in New York, Thursday, Jan. 16, 2020. Weinstein's lawyers, who floated similar concerns in a losing effort to move the trial in October, said a โcarnival-like atmosphereโ has taken hold during eight days of jury selection, making it impossible for Weinstein to get a fair trial in his hometown. Moving to a smaller community with a smaller jury pool would only make it more difficult to find jurors, they added. Friedman declined a request from Weinsteinโs lawyers to halt the trial until the panel rules. Last week, Weinstein's lawyers tried and failed to get jury selection halted for a โcooling offโ period after Los Angeles prosecutors announced charges against him there on the first day of the New York City trial.

On Monday, supermodel Gigi Hadid caused a stir by emerging as a potential juror, telling the judge she had met Weinstein but could be impartial. Hadid revealed in court that aside from Weinstein, she had met actress Salma Hayek, a potential witness. Weinstein, 67, is accused of raping a woman in a Manhattan hotel room in 2013 and sexually assaulting another in 2006.
Gigi Hadid among potential jurors for Weinstein's rape trial
Harvey Weinstein arrives at a Manhattan courthouse for jury selection in his rape trial, Monday, Jan. 13, 2020, in New York. Hadid, who lives in Manhattan and studied criminal psychology at The New School, was among 35 potential jurors asked to return to court Thursday for additional questioning. Hadid's presence added flair to what has been a tedious jury selection process. They include defense requests for the judge to step aside and for jury selection to be held in secret, both of which were denied, and a noisy protest outside the courthouse. As his New York trial was getting underway a week ago, Los Angeles prosecutors announced new charges in a separate case against Weinstein.
