Man, 18, arrested in slaying of actor Eddie Hassell in Texas
GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas – Police say an 18-year-old man has been arrested in the fatal shooting of actor Eddie Hassell during a random robbery at a suburban Dallas apartment complex parking lot over the weekend. Grand Prairie police say D'jon Antone was arrested on a capital murder charge Wednesday at his home in Dallas. Antone was being held Thursday at the Grand Prairie Detention Center on $500,000 bond. Police spokesman Mark Beseda said Hassell was visiting a friend at the apartment complex and was shot after going to the parking lot to retrieve something. “He was just a victim of wrong place, wrong time,” Beseda said.

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas – The actor Eddie Hassell, known for his roles in the NBC show “Surface” and the 2010 film “The Kids Are All Right,” has died after a shooting in Texas, police said. The shooting happened early Sunday in the Dallas suburb of Grand Prairie, police said. Grand Prairie police said in a statement that officers responded to a report of a shooting and found Hassell suffering from gunshot wounds. A representative for Hassell told Variety that the shooting appeared to be connected to a carjacking. Grand Prairie police said the motive remained under investigation, but that a car had been taken from the scene of the shooting.
Firefighters battling large blaze at Dallas-area factory
GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas A large fire burned early Wednesday at a Texas factory where trash bags and other plastics are produced. There were no immediate reports of injuries from the fire that broke out in the predawn hours in the Dallas suburb of Grand Prairie. The Grand Prairie Fire Department said firefighters were battling the blaze at the Poly-America complex and asked people to avoid the area. The cause of the fire wasn't immediately known. Poly-America is headquartered in Grand Prairie and specializes in products made from polyethylene, such as trash bags, drop cloths and plastic sheeting, according to the companys website.
Boy, 13, driving car in Texas strikes pedestrians, killing 1
GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas Police in suburban Dallas say a 13-year-old boy was driving a vehicle that struck three adults and two children, killing one of the adults. Grand Prairie police said teen was driving the sedan Sunday night without his parents consent when he hit the people. Police say two women and a man were pushing a 1-year-old boy and 2-year-old girl in strollers when they were all hit on a highway frontage road. Police say the teen did not see the pedestrians walking in the same direction he was traveling. She was the legal guardian of the 1-year-old boy.

Return preparer fraud is one of the IRS Dirty Dozen Tax Scams and taxpayers seeking a return preparer should remain vigilant. The IRS has information on its website for choosing a tax preparer and has launched a free directory of federal tax preparers. In the past decade, the Tax Division has obtained injunctions against hundreds of unscrupulous tax preparers.
