SAN ANTONIO – As Texas has “opened 100%”, the Bexar County courts remain closed to in-person and jury trials. These trials will take place in the 227th District Court by Judge Kevin O’Connell. AdWhen this retrial takes place it will be in the 144th District Court with Judge Michael Mery. When this trial is set it will take place in the 399th District Court with Judge Frank Castro presiding.
Houston woman seen kicking dog in viral video says it was self defense
HOUSTON – A woman in Houston who was seen in a recent viral video kicking and punching a dog says she is now getting threats from hundreds of strangers online, according to KPRC. The woman, who is referred to as Jay in KPRC’s report, said she was just trying to protect her 5-year-old son who told her the dog jumped on him after he fell. Houston Police declined to comment on potential charges as it relates to the case. Katie Fine, with the Houston Humane Society, told KPRC “unfortunately, it is something we see often, we get cruelty cases here a lot, once or twice per month." After a five-game loss to Jay on Sept. 22, Southwest Legacy coach Tanya Martinez decided she needed to sharpen her team’s mental focus. Southwest Legacy (1-2, 1-0) stomped Eagle Pass Winn (0-1 in district) 25-20, 25-13, 25-19 in their District 28-5A opener. “Instead of playing the situation, we started just playing the game,” Martinez said. Chess Tournament, held for the first time at Kazen Middle School in South San Antonio Independent School District. In years past, chess players have traveled from as far as Laredo and Mexico to enter the tournament. Chase began teaching his students chess to give them something to do after school and keep them out of trouble. Hes coached teams for decades, but currently helps prepare young chess players at Little Flower Catholic School on San Antonios West Side and in Castroville.
