A Houston man shot by immigration officers has become at least the eighth person to die during the Trump administration's immigration enforcement campaign.

The son of a Mexican national fatally shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer in Houston says he was a hardworking father who had been working toward a work permit after 35 years in the U.S. Lorenzo Salgado Araujo was driving to a construction job Tuesday morning when he was killed.

Federal officials said the man was stopped as part of a targeted enforcement operation. An ICE agent fired on the migrant in self-defense, according to officials.
