Despite the Urumqi outbreak, China has just 251 people remaining in treatment for COVID-19, according to the National Health Commission. At least 23 of those asymptomatic cases were in Urumqi, although China does not include them in confirmed cases. The Urumqi outbreak is the latest to pop up since China largely contained the domestic spread of the virus in March.

Parliament was due to sit from Aug. 4 to 13 and would not meet again until the next planned two-week sitting starting on Aug. 24. Morrison said he had written to the parliamentary speaker to ask for a cancellation. Kelly says, The entry of a high-risk group of individuals could jeopardize the health situation ... and place residents at unnecessary risk of infection. On Friday, Victoria state reported a new high of 428 cases and three deaths, most in and around the nations second-largest city of Melbourne, which has been locked down since last week.

Confirmed virus cases worldwide have topped 14 million and deaths have surpassed 600,000, according to Johns Hopkins University data, a day after the World Health Organization reported a single-day record of new infections at over 237,000. The country, however, remains the worlds most unequal, and health officials have warned that the pandemic will lay that bare. The two most populous states each reported roughly 10,000 new cases and some of their highest death counts since the pandemic began.

NEW DELHI — Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan says he has tested positive for the coronavirus and is hospitalized in Mumbai, India’s financial and entertainment capital. In a tweet on Saturday, Bachchan, 77, said his family and staff have also undergone tests and are awaiting results. — Amitabh Bachchan (@SrBachchan) July 11, 2020He appealed to those who were in close proximity to him in the past 10 days to get themselves tested. Bachchan’s 44-year-old-son Abhishek Bachchan, also an actor, tweeted Saturday night that he also has tested COVID-19 positive and is hospitalized. On Saturday, India’s coronavirus caseload crossed 800,000 with the biggest spike of 27,114 cases reported in the past 24 hours.

Victoria Premier Daniel Andrews said a man in his 90s died overnight while 49 remained hospitalized, including 15 in intensive care. Victoria, Australias second-most populous state after neighboring New South Wales, has been cut off with border closures by other states. All states and territories except New South Wales had eradicated community transmission of the virus, but Victoria-linked infections are spreading. Victoria hopes a second lockdown in Melbourne, Australias second-largest city with a population of 5 million, will curb the spread. South Korea has reported 35 new cases of the coronavirus, bringing its caseload to 13,373 infections and 288 deaths.

NEW DELHI Saroj Khan, a top Bollywood choreographer, died of cardiac arrest in a Mumbai hospital early Friday, her family said. Leading actresses including Madhuri Dixit and Sridevi danced to some of the most popular songs Khan had produced. Khan started her acting career at the age of 3 in a Bollywood film. She never looked back and created some of Bollywoods most popular film songs. Khan was buried in a Mumbai cemetery on Friday, her nephew Manish Jagwani told reporters.

About 300 people are due to arrive in Adelaide this weekend from Mumbai, India, while hundreds are expected to follow from South America and Indonesia.
