SAN ANTONIO โ A San Antonio registered nurse who contracted COVID-19 last year said a post-COVID recovery clinic at the South Texas Medical Center changed her life. Hernandez said she contracted COVID-19 in June and went to the emergency room twice. โIt started with extreme body aches to the point where I couldnโt get out of bed, and within hours I couldnโt breathe,โ Hernandez said. In late August, Hernandez learned about the COVID-19 recovery clinic located at the UT Health San Antonio Medical Arts and Research Center. โI think weโre so blessed to have a clinic here in San Antonio to help us with post-COVID syndrome,โ Hernandez said.

SAN ANTONIO โ A San Antonio registered nurse who spent most of 2020 caring for COVID-19 patients in several Texas cities and New York is reflecting on what it was like to work on the front lines and how the pandemic changed her life forever. SaintLouis also spent a lot of time caring for COVID-19 patients in Houston, El Paso and San Antonio. SaintLouis is currently working in a San Antonio hospital and continues to work with COVID-19 patients who have severe symptoms. โWeโre definitely being hit here because thatโs all Iโve been working with, is COVID-19 patients that are on life support,โ SaintLouis said. For now, she will stay in San Antonio to be closer to her family.
San Antonio nurse practitioner working to return to normal life after 56-day coma
SAN ANTONIO โ San Antonio nurse practitioner Justin Vine continues to show improvement after being released from the hospital, where he was in a medically induced coma for 56 days following his COVID-19 diagnosis. He was then placed on a ventilator, given a plasma donation and Remdesivir while he was in the hospital. โI can tell Iโm still getting stronger and stronger every day,โ he said. Vine said he couldnโt stay away from his work for too long. โLeaving the house, coming back kind of thing, and also -- simple as driving my car,โ Vine said.

EL PASO, Texas โ A fire engine wailed its siren up Cotton Avenue and disappeared behind the El Paso Long Term Acute Care hospital. 725 people have died of COVID-19 in El Paso since March 23 โ the day the county reported the first death tied to the novel coronavirus, according to El Paso Times. Hundreds of health care workers have flown into El Paso to pick up shifts from exhausted doctors and nurses and to staff tent hospitals erected in parking lots. The El Paso Long Term Acute Care hospital, physician-owned and licensed for 33 beds, is pitching in as it can. The COVID-19 patient transferred out was stable and would be back in a few days, she said.

SAN ANTONIO โ A local registered nurse has transformed her passion of helping others in the emergency room to helping people through her non-profit tattoo removal program. โThe side effect was that it caused a burn, but it healed without a scar but I could scar,โ Kent said. Kent said depending on the tattoo, it varies as far as how many treatments it takes to have a tattoo completely removed. โIt is a fading process,โ Kent said. Itโs nice.โKent said the biggest reward she gets is knowing she has help start the change in someoneโs life.
Mexico: 2 men arrested in strangling deaths of sister nurses
MEXICO CITY โ Two men were arrested for the strangling deaths of three sisters who worked in Mexicoโs government hospital system, and authorities ruled out any link to nationwide assaults on medical staff as anxiety over the pandemic escalates. The killings had nothing to do with the sistersโ hospital work, Riquelme said late Friday. Two of the sisters were nurses for the Mexican Social Security Institute and the third was a hospital administrator. The sisters, who were between 48 and 59 years old, were killed Thursday, according to the Social Security Institute. In sporadic incidents in other parts of Mexico, nurses have had been hit, kicked off public transport or had cleaning fluids poured on them because of fears they might spread the new coronavirus.

Police chief who suffered a heart attack was dead for 15 minutes before nurse revived him
SAN ANTONIO โ Medina ISD Police Chief Abel Devora was working a track meet on February 28, thinking it would be a nice turnout on a nice day. Amy Phillippe, an ER nurse, was attending the track meet with her kids at the time of the incident. Devoraโs 12-year-old daughter was nearby at the track meet. โHis heart started beating again. Phillippe says people should learn basic CPR and learn how to use an AED.
