CANYON, Texas โ Sometimes referred to as the โTexas Grand Canyon,โ Palo Duro Canyon has a rich history and is the second-largest canyon in the U.S. While the Grand Canyon is roughly 277 miles long, Palo Duro measures approximately 120 miles long. Palo Duro Canyon State Park is located at 11450 State Hwy Park Rd 5 near Canyon, Texas - the heart of the panhandle. Be advised, while most state parks, including Palo Duro Canyon, are currently open, many have reduced their capacity due to the coronavirus pandemic. Palo Duro Canyon is the second-largest park in the state parks system today, with about 28,000 acres and it opened to the public in 1934, according to TPWD.
Texas State Parks offer free day passes this Sunday in honor of Veterans Day

The promotion comes shortly before Veterans Day, November 11, and applies to all day-use visitors. "The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and Texas State Parks are proud to honor the men and women that serve our country in the military," TSP Director Rodney Franklin said in a news release. "What better way to celebrate their service and dedication than by spending the day at a beautiful Texas State Park. The donations help veteran service organizations and nonprofit groups that serve Texas veterans.
