McCarthy’s 1st season in Dallas coming apart over turnovers
His first season as coach of the Dallas Cowboys is coming apart because of how badly his team is losing that battle. I need to figure something out.”The Cardinals scored 24 points off those turnovers, and 13 of Dallas' NFL-leading 15 giveaways have led to points — 11 of them touchdowns. Cowboys ready to host Mayfield, Browns
ARLINGTON, Texas – Baker Mayfield got the homecoming stuff out of the way quickly as the Cleveland quarterback talked about preparing for his second NFL game in Texas. But if the situation dictates differently in Dallas, Mayfield is prepared to match Prescott pass for pass. “When it comes down to it, we are playing the Cowboys' defense and we have to do whatever it takes to win,” Mayfield said. If Smith is back, the Cowboys will have to decide between Steele and Brandon Knight at right tackle.
Gambler? McCarthy sees ‘aggressive’ 1st impression in Dallas
The first of two fake punts from Dallas territory helped dig a 20-point hole in the first quarter in last week's 40-39 win over Atlanta. Case in point: a fake field goal on fourth-and-26 against Chicago in 2012. “Everything that happened in that game happened for a reason for us to win,” Fassel said. The fake punts often are dictated by how the receiving team lines up. “It’s important for the players to feel the confidence from the head coach,” McCarthy said.
Cowboys seek steady roll to playoffs after up-and-down start
The Cowboys next play at the New York Giants in another division game in their only "Monday Night Football" appearance Nov. 4. The Cowboys had to win all five remaining games to return to the playoffs, falling short when they lost in Elliott's return. During the open week last year, the Cowboys gave up this year's first-round draft pick to get No. After the loss to the Packers, Prescott acknowledged the Cowboys might have "sniffed ourselves a little bit too much" coming off the 3-0 start. But when asked after the embarrassing loss to the Jets if he still thought he had a great team, Prescott responded swiftly, "I know we have a great team.
