Italy’s La Scala has postponed its ballet season premiere after a coronavirus outbreak in its ranks

Ballet and sex trafficking are two things you wouldn’t expect to be associated with one another. However, a faith-based ballet company out of Chicago is bringing its unique performance, “Reckless,” to San Antonio.

The Children's Ballet of San Antonio is a nonprofit organization that brings the arts to the community and after more than a year, they are back and ready to perform.

Hamrick's Live Arts Global company is producing A Night at the Ballet, a free streaming event that premieres this week. They depend on a live audience to do their work, of course, and most live paycheck to paycheck. The result is “A Night at the Ballet,” a free streaming event that premieres Thursday and was produced by Live Arts Global, founded by Hamrick and her partners, Christine Shevchenko (a principal dancer at ABT) and Joanna DeFelice. "A Night at the Ballet," an event to support the performing arts community during the COVID-19 pandemic, will be streamed on YouTube December 17-20. The 60-minute program, presented by Live Arts Global, will feature dancers from American Ballet Theatre, New York City Ballet, Dance Theater of Harlem, Mariinsky Theatre, San Francisco Ballet, and former stars of the Alvin Ailey company performing excerpts from "Don Quixote," "The Nutcracker," "Romeo and Juliet" and more. Live Arts Global co-founder and ballerina Melanie Hamrick said, "The past year has been challenging for many of us in the dance and theater community. "'A Night at the Ballet' is an opportunity to appreciate the classics, while also providing financial support to artists and crew," she said. San Antonio There is still a way for you to enjoy the classic nutcracker ballet even in uncertain times like these, with Danielle Campbell Steans ingenious plan of providing a drive-In ballet experience. Danielle still hopes that it is safe enough for her dancers from the San Antonio Ballet School to be able to perform The Nutcracker live, but assuming this isnt the case then dont worry fans will still be able to get their ballet fill. The idea is to have attendees drive in and watch from the safety of their vehicles, and if it is safe enough allow them to bring lawn chairs and even possibly have live performers accompanying the pre-recording.
