Driver, passenger fled on foot following accident, police say

SAN ANTONIO – A pickup truck crashed into a home where a mother and a baby were sleeping and launched them both out of the back of the house injuring the mother, San Antonio police said Wednesday.

The crash was reported just before 3 a.m. at the home located in the 300 block of Luxemburg Drive, not far from West Commerce Street on the city's West Side.

The mother and the infant's bed were directly hit by the truck and the pair were launched out the back and into the backyard, police said.

Homeowner Gabriel Martinez said his wife Melissa Guzman, 32, suffered broken ribs and a broken shoulder from the incident. He said he was sleeping in a different bed but in the same room.

Martinez said the two men from inside the truck ran away on foot after he failed to stop them.

Guzman was transported to University hospital for her injuries. The 1-year-old child remarkably only had abrasions, police said.
