Garbage truck driver rescued from floodwaters

Driver expected to be OK after rescue at Holbrook Road, Aina Lane

SAN ANTONIO – The driver of a C6 garbage truck had to be rescued by boat Monday morning after his truck became submerged in the rising waters of Salado Creek.

Overnight rains caused many streets to flood, but San Antonio Fire Department spokesman Woody Woodward said there were no barricades out at the time.

The rescue was reported around 8:15 a.m. at Holbrook Road at Aina Lane.

The driver tried to drive through the water until it came up to the cab. He is expected to be OK.

Woodward said no else was in the truck.
