PORT ARANSAS, Texas – Visitors to Mustang Island on Sunday were greeted with temperatures in the upper 50s, overcast skies and chilly winds.
Not the kind of spring break weather tourists hope for.
But the visitors aren't allowing the unseasonable weather to get in the way of their plans.
"I woke up this morning, and it was cold. So I was like, 'I'm just going make me a nice little camp fire," Ryan Talbot, a tourist, said. "And these guys from UNT (University of North Texas) come up, and they start playing a football game. So you know, it almost felt like Sunday again."
Rain or shine, businesses bank on spring break to bring in customers.
"Spring break is like a week of summer before summer," America Garcia, an employee of Beach and Surf, said. "It is rainy, but there is still stuff to do around the island."
Mother Nature may finally come through for the breakers, but that may not happen until later in the week.
