KSAT Weather: Wintry mix in SA brings cold, wet morning commute

SAN ANTONIO – KSAT 12 meteorologist Mike Osterhage says that some snow has mixed with rain in the Hill Country and that there have even been a few wet flakes seen around San Antonio.

The snow mix will not cause any problem on the roads however because temperatures are above freezing, Osterhage said. It will stay wet and cold most of the day. Rain will taper late this afternoon.

The National Weather Service says to expect rain with a high near 47 degrees. A North-northeast wind will be at 10 to 15 miles per hour with gusts as high as 20 miles per hour. The chance of precipitation on Thursday is 90% with new precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

SCHOOL DELAYS/CLOSURES:

Carrizo Springs ISD plans to release students at 1 p.m.

According to the school's Facebook page, The Rocksprings Independent School District has decided to cancel class on Thursday due to an over abundance of caution from the continued snow fall, freezing temps, and power outage at the school.

Brackett ISD has canceled classes for Thursday. 

Leakey ISD School will be delayed by one hour due to ice on some roadways. Buses will run one hour later than usual. Staff is to report at regular time.

Nueces Canyon CISD  will have a 10 a.m. start this morning. Buses will run two hours later.

UPDATE: A Winter Weather Advisory was issued for Kinney, Maverick, Zavala, Dimmit, and Uvalde Counties until 10 a.m. this morning.

UPDATE: The National Weather Service is reporting light snowfall near Laughlin Air Force Base in Val Verde County.

UPDATE: The National Weather Service says light accumulations are being reported on grassy surfaces in Brackettville. Nothing on the roadways as temperatures remain above freezing.
