HOUSTON – A graphic trailer leaked of Telemundo’s “El Secreto de Selena” has enraged fans of the murdered Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla.

The trailer for the TV adaptation of journalist Maria Celeste Arrara’s book about Selena shows what appears to be a surveillance camera near a hotel room where a woman is folding laundry in the frame. A gunshot is heard and the woman flees. The actor playing the legend stumbles out of a room or corridor and then runs away with blood trailing in her wake. The actress then is seen in another surveillance-like shot in a lobby collapsing to the floor.

The trailer goes on to show the chaos in a newsroom, as well as the moment when Selena’s blood-covered ring falls to the floor in an ambulance.

In addition to Selena, the trailer also shows an actress playing Yolanda Saldivar, who was convicted of the murder, as she holds a gun to her own head and says, “I can’t” and is arrested.

People magazine notes in January, Arraras announced that her book would be made into a mini-series, which angered fans who organized a petition to stop the TV adaptation from happening. Selena’s sister, Suzette Quintanilla, has derided the journalist on Instagram, saying in one of her stories, according to People: “You, Maria Celeste, are full of crap. Your book is based on a whole bunch of lies. You know where those lies came from? Your source is a person who killed, cold-heartedly murdered my sister, shot her in the back and left her to die. It makes my stomach sick. What kind of world do we live in?”

Arrarás told People en Espanol, “The book is based on serious and meticulous research, but it was written with admiration and respect in memory of Selena.”
