SEGUIN, Texas – A Seguin woman accused of trying to smother her 4-month-old baby told detectives she was "under a lot of stress" before it happened.
Police arrested Marinda Ison, 19, on Monday on a charge of attempted capital murder. A news release shows a relative had called police on Saturday, saying the young mother confessed to trying to kill her infant daughter.

Police said the incident happened last Wednesday in Ison's home in the 1100 block of Magnolia Street.
"She admitted that she had attempted to suffocate the baby," said Det. Franklin Thomas. "She covered the child's nose and mouth with her hand to the point where there may have been some bleeding."
Thomas said Ison also told investigators she had made other attempts to kill the baby in the past.
"At this point, we're not really sure why she wanted to do it, other than she stated that she was under a lot of stress," Thomas said.
The child was checked out at a hospital, then turned over to her father, police said.
The 22-year-old, now-single dad declined to identify himself, but he proudly showed off his daughter, whom he identified as Cheyenne Marie.
He said he'll care for Cheyenne with the help of family members, although he's not sure what the future holds for his wife.
Marinda Ison is being held in the Guadalupe County jail with bond set at $1 million.
