Cynthia Stewart fired after online solicitation arrest

School board votes to terminate Stewart's contract

SAN ANTONIO – A Judson Independent School District counselor who was arrested for sending inappropriate emails to a 15-year-old boy is now out of a job.

After a closed session on Wednesday night, the Judson School Board voted unanimously to end the district's employment contract with Cynthia Stewart, 43. The move was made following the arrest of Stewart.

Stewart, was a school guidance counselor at Olympia Elementary. She was arrested on a charge of online solicitation of a minor.

According to an arrest affidavit, Stewart admitted to sending pictures of her nude body to a 15-year-old boy.

However, district officials say that minor was not a student in the Judson School District.

Stewart had been on paid administrative leave until Wednesday when the board authorized the administration to present Stewart with a notice to terminate her employment.

"Obviously, this was a big concern, not only to the community but to the district as well," said Judson ISD spokesperson Aubrey Chancellor. "And, we wanted to follow the letter of the law in the process that has to be used to move forward with termination."

Stewart will have two weeks to protest the decision. However, as of Wednesday night she remained in jail on a $25,000 bond.
