Man arrested in coat hanger beating of baby

Kevin Carter charged with injury to child

SAN ANTONIO – A San Antonio man with prior arrests for assault and family violence is accused of taking out his anger on a 17-month-old girl, using a plastic coat hanger to beat her.

Police said they found out about the injuries after the baby's father took her to Christus Santa Rosa Children's Center for Miracles on Dec. 1.

An arrest affidavit stated she had bruise marks on various parts of her body that appeared to be in the shape of a plastic coat hanger.

According to the affidavit, the child's mother had left her in the care of her boyfriend, Kevin Carter, 23, the previous day.

It also stated the mother noticed the bruises the next morning and questioned Carter about them, but he told her the baby had been injured when she fell from the bed.

Investigators said later that day, the mother dropped the little girl off at her father's home and when he noticed the severity of her injuries, he took her to the hospital.

Carter was arrested Wednesday on a charge of injury to a child, the affidavit stated.
