SAN ANTONIO – Family and friends of a Southwest Side business owner were trying to understand Friday why he was fatally wounded.
San Antonio police said Carlos Corona, 25, was shot to death at 5:30 p.m. Thursday after two men barged in with guns at his auto salvage shop in the 8600 block of New Laredo Highway.
Police said the men separated Corona from his employees and then robbed and shot him.
Several hours later, police arrested Julian Sifuentes, 26, and Richard Rodriguez, 24, and a woman accused of driving their getaway car.
Police said the group led officers on a chase through Bexar County that ended when the two men bailed out of the car, nearly back where it began.
Both men were charged with capital murder, aggravated robbery and aggravated kidnapping. Rodriguez was also charged with aggravated assault.
Corona's employee, Richard Perez, said he was being held at gunpoint in another room when he heard the shots that killed his boss.
"My first reaction was (it's) bad, real bad," Perez said. "I kind of escaped, and I notified the neighbors next door to us to let them know that Carlos had been shot."
Police said the neighbors followed the suspects and provided information to officers about their location.
A relative of Corona said he believes the suspects were former employee and the other a former customer.
In his parents' home Friday morning, family members remembered Corona as a kind, giving person who was always willing to help those in need.
Corona had become a prize winning boxer at a young age, once winning a Golden Gloves title, relatives said.
Records show Corona also had a few scuffles with the law in the past, including charges related to domestic violence and marijuana possession.
Rodriguez and Sifuentes also had prior arrests, mainly for marijuana and drug possession.
