A taco restaurant on Broadway and an Asian market on Walzem Road both just failed health inspections.
Lee's El Taco Garage on Broadway just inside the loop failed their latest health inspection with 51 demerits. They had a long list of violations including:
- A faulty fridge with food at unsafe temperatures.
- Some meat, soup, beans and juice were thrown out.
- Improper hand washing by employees.
- No hot water at one sink.
The owner of Lee's El Taco Garage contacted KSAT's Behind the Kitchen Door and says many of the issues the health inspector discovered were related to construction.
He said it's an old garage and they are working to maintain it. Some of the citations were over issues in the office and loading area.
The faulty refrigerator has been replaced and the hot water issue was caused by a cracked line, which has been repaired.
The owner says employees have been trained while new forms and hand washing signs have been posted. The owner says he is focused on making El Taco Garage a better restaurant.
Vietnam Market on Walzem Road failed their inspection with 40 demerits with multiple violations connected to the sale of live seafood.
- The inspector warned the staff to wash their hands properly after handling seafood or the tanks holding the seafood.
- They were advised to not sell dead crab or crawfish.
- The market was told to clean and sanitize all equipment and post their inspection report where customers can see it.
The inspection report shows many of the violations were corrected during the inspection itself. The manager says everything else has been taken care of. He tells KSAT's Behind the Kitchen Door the inspection report is now posted by their cash register.
Metro Health issued perfect scores to the following eateries:
- Brio Tuscan Grille at the Shops at La Cantera.
- Five Guys Burgers & Fries on DeZavala.
- Papa John's Pizza on Nacogdoches.
- Rios Barbacoa on Roosevelt.
- Tink-a-Tako on Potranco.
