Woman charged with forgery in mailbox check theft

Police: Jessica Saldana, 19, cashed $487 stolen check

SAN ANTONIO – A South Side woman is accused of cashing a check stolen from another woman's mailbox.

An arrest affidavit stated that a 65-year-old woman reported to police that someone stole a check she had placed into her mailbox May 21, and cashed it.

The woman told police the check originally was made out to CPS Energy in the amount of $98.02.

The check was cashed about three days after she wrote it out, the affidavit stated. Police investigated and arrested Jessica Saldana, 19.

The affidavit stated that investigators found out the check had been altered, made out to Saldana in the amount of $487. In addition, police said they found a fingerprint on the check which matched Saldana's.
