BCSO: Caregiver stole thousands from elderly woman

Heather Flores, 27, arrested Saturday on charge of credit card abuse

SAN ANTONIO – A 27-year-old woman identified as Heather Flores is accused of stealing from an 89-year-old woman for whom she was hired to provide care.

An arrest warrant affidavit stated that the elderly woman notified the Bexar County Sheriff's Office in May that someone had made fraudulent charges to her credit card.

The woman also told them she noticed several items of jewelry were missing from her home, the affidavit stated.

Detectives investigated and said they found evidence that Flores had used the credit card to withdraw about $7,600, and that the withdrawals were made at an ATM located in the lobby of the retirement center where the victim lived, the affidavit stated.

They said they also learned that Flores had charged more than $300 to the credit card by accepting phone calls from her husband who is in jail, the affidavit stated.

In addition, the affidavit that detectives found evidence that the suspect had pawned some of the victim's jewelry. Flores was arrested Saturday on a charge of credit card abuse.

However, the affidavit stated that detectives are investigating additional cases against her, also involving elderly victims.
