Vigil held for murdered Honduran teen

Fanuel Arita, 17, shot, killed Wednesday night

SAN ANTONIO – Fanuel Arita, 17, had plans to return to Honduras and build his mother a home.

Thursday tonight, his family and friends paid tribute to the teen who was gunned down in front of his home on the near Northwest Side.

Arita would have turned 18 next month, but instead of his family planning a birthday party, his sister Amy Perez said they're now planning his funeral.

"He didn't make this happen ... it wasn't his fault," said Perez.

Surrounded by close friends and family, Perez still can't believe her little brother is dead.

A vigil was held in front of his home, the same place he was gunned down late Wednesday night.

"The car pulled up, and they called him over and he went over there and they shot him once in the chest and once in the heart," said Perez.

Just hours after the shooting, police questioned three men and later arrested 18-year-old Jose Castellans-Aguilera in connection to Arita's murder.

Perez said her brother was headed back home to Honduras to be with their mother in just a few months.

"My brother was never a trouble maker, he was a good kid. He just came to this country to work and make a house for his mom in Honduras," said Perez.

Family members said the victim and the suspect knew each other and had an ongoing rivalry. The cause of the shooting is under investigation.
