Man changing tire fatally crushed by truck

SAN ANTONIO – A man who became trapped under his truck when a jack collapsed died at the hospital late Monday night.

The Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office identified the victim as Brandon Smith, 24, of Sand Springs, OK.

The accident happened around 10 p.m. on Interstate 37 South, about half a mile south of Highway 181.

Bexar County sheriff's deputies said Smith was attempting to change a tire on his truck when the jack gave way, pinning him under the pickup.

Several emergency crews responded to the scene as personnel worked to free Smith.

He was transported to San Antonio Military Medical Center by AirLife in critical condition and pronounced dead at 10:49 p.m.
