SAN ANTONIO – A 30-year-old man is suspected of calling the shots in a Northeast Side murder earlier this month, signalling another man to actually fire the fatal shots at the victim.
An arrest warrant affidavit stated that Rodney Walker told detectives during questioning that he did not fire any shots, but nodded his head, telling the suspected triggerman to open fire.
Matthew Winkelman, 30, died in the shooting on Feb. 12 in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 200 block of Rainbow Drive.
Police said Walker and another man were arguing with Winkleman when Walker suddenly signaled to the other man to shoot, the affidavit stated.
Winkleman was hit in his chest. Walker was arrested Monday on a charge of murder.
Although the affidavit also names the suspected triggerman, it does not appear he has been arrested yet.
