SAN ANTONIO – An employee of a San Antonio spa is behind bars Friday and charged with prostitution.
The Jade Spa, located in the 2200 block of North West Military Drive, is temporarily shut down after Ye Manqing, 31, was arrested and charged with prostitution.
The spa's list of services can be found outside, but it's what was allegedly happening behind closed doors that prompted a police investigation.
"Money was exchanging hands in the back. I can tell you that much. The book stuff up front wasn't exactly the way you should conduct business," said Castle Hills Police Captain Johnny Siemens.
Siemens said the department began receiving tips about illegal activity earlier this month.
"Heavy traffic, heavy male traffic. It ran somewhat late in the evening. It was pretty heavy throughout the day," Siemens said.
The owner of the spa allegedly had no idea of the back room dealing and no other employees are suspected of committing any sort of illegal activity.
"There were three (people inside) when we were there -- the owner and two other employees -- but as far we know, it was just the one. It did seem that the business itself from the perceptive of the other employees and the owner it was fairly up and up," said Siemens.
The business posted a sign on its door, saying that it planned to reopen on March 9.
