Man gets life sentence in death of infant daughter

Dominique Martez Reed, 25, charged with murder after daughter found seriously injured

SAN ANTONIO – A San Antonio man was sentenced to life in prison Monday in connection with the death of his infant daughter.

Dominique Martez Reed, 25, was charged with murder after his 3-month-old daughter, Zaniyah Reed, was found not breathing in an apartment off FM 78 on Oct. 15, 2010.

Emergency crews found the child had bruising and a swollen stomach. Zaniyah Reed died a short time later at an area hospital.

An autopsy later revealed Zaniyah died from multiple blunt-force injuries, including head injuries, 14 rib fractures, a lacerated liver, a torn pancreas, and also suffered injuries to her vaginal area.

Dominique Reed first told investigators Zaniyah had fallen off a car seat. He later changed his story, claiming that he accidentally fell on her when he was trying to catch her from a fall to the ground.
