SAN ANTONIO ā A mother and daughter were remembered Friday one year after they were killed in an apparent murder-suicide.
Family and friends gathered to honor Irma Davilla, 41, and Destiny Davila, 14, who were killed July 3, 2014.
Irma Davila's husband, Hector Davila Jr., died of a gunshot wound to the chest.
Their deaths led Linda Barrientos, a close friend of Irma Davilla, to stand up against domestic violence.
"We're a very loving, family-oriented neighborhood and that's the way I want to keep it. And this is showing a message that we can come together as a neighborhood, and show our love and support and we're not gonna let this happen in our neighborhood again," Barrientos said.
She urged anyone who suspects their loved ones may be suffering domestic violence to speak up.
