Car dealership hard-hit by hailstorm

Fast-moving storms slam Alamo City with large hail

SAN ANTONIO – The storms came and went pretty quick through Bexar County. But once again, they left behind a trail of damage.

Employees at Ancira Kia off Bandera Road and Loop 410 took cellphone video of the baseball-size hail coming down Monday evening, but they were hoping the damage wouldn't be as bad as two weeks ago.

"I was thinking that I hope it doesn't get too bad," said Ancira Kia Manager Scot Carl. "The baseball, softball-sized hail. That's not good for anybody."

The hail fell through quickly, but the damage it left behind will take some time to fix.

"Some employees got windshields knocked out of their vehicle," Carl said. "We have a couple here on the lot. We really haven't assessed anything yet."

Employee James Martinez walked out to find his back windshield broken and the back seat of his car soaked.

"I said, ‘Well, I kind of lost some money today, but what can you do?’ Thank God for insurance I guess."

An adjuster had been on site from the hail storm last week, but Carl said he expects more customers looking for deals on their newly damaged cars on the lot.

"They (adjusters) just finished up Thursday and Friday from the last little hail we had," Carl said. "It was basically pea-size hail. Today, was more golf ball-size hail. They'll be coming again. One thing about hail sales, the customers are here so, we are looking forward to that business."
