Downtown Salvation Army shelter sees minor flooding Thursday

SAN ANTONIO – Thursday morning's heavy rain caused some minor flooding inside the Salvation Army's emergency family shelter in downtown San Antonio.

Shelter staff members were forced to move several beds and personal items away from a wall with windows as rain began pouring in.

Officials said it appears the seals on the windows failed and now need repair. In the meantime, they're using towels and blankets to mop up the mess.

The shelter remains open despite the leaky windows.

"There were clients still in there at the time. A lot of them stay here because of the inclement weather, so it was an interesting morning. Needless to say, we had to improvise to make sure our clients are as comfortable as possible," said Brad Mayhar, with Salvation Army.

The shelter said it is always in need of towels and blankets. Donations can be made at the facility at 521 West Elmira Street.
