SAN ANTONIO – Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff's State of the County address Friday included the announcement of a new urban hub coming to the area between UTSA Boulevard and West Hausman Road off Interstate 10.
"They want to do a walkable area where you can work, play and live in the same area and not have to be driving down freeways all the time," Wolff said.
While areas in downtown and southtown draw large crowds, Wolff believes urban hubs are needed throughout the metropolitan area.
The 114-acre property will be a mixed-use development five-times larger than the Pearl. It will be constructed in a side of town already experiencing significant growth near the University of Texas at San Antonio.
North San Antonio Chamber of Commerce CEO Duane Wilson said the new multi-use development should be running by 2019-20.

"I like it," San Antonio resident Brandon Benke said. "There's a lot of stuff growing out here from a business perspective, so it's cool they're doing more stuff for the community."
The land was purchased by California-based developer Robert Schumacher March 2015 during a federal bankruptcy court auction, according to Bexar County spokeswoman Laura Jesse. It's believed local businessman Steve Sanders is a partner in the project.
KSAT 12 put in calls to Schumacher but has yet to hear back.
