VIA to offer special event service to Texas Folklife Festival

Park & ride service available June 10-12

SAN ANTONIO – VIA Metropolitan Transit will offer special event park and ride service June 10 through 12 to the 45th annual Texas Folklife Festival as a solution to traffic and parking challenges downtown.

The festival will be held at the Institute of Texan Cultures at 801 E. Cesar Chavez Blvd.

VIA buses will take passengers from the Crossroads Park & Ride location to the festival at the Institute of Texan Cultures at 801 E. Cesar Chavez Blvd. on the following schedule:

  • Friday, June 10 – 4:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, June 11 – 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.
  • Sunday, June 12 – 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The fare will cost $2.50 each way with discounted fares available for children, seniors, students and active-duty military in uniform or with a VIA Reduced Fare ID. Cash and credit cards are accepted at park and ride locations. VIAtrans customers and children under age 5 will ride free. VIA bus passes are not valid for this service.

VIA’s VIVA centro, part of a new service line to debut June 6, will also serve the festival area. Passengers on VIVA centro should exit the bus near the Convention Center, within walking distance to the Institute of Texan Cultures. VIVA centro will run every 15 minutes from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. on weekdays, and 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. on weekends. Standard bus fares apply.

Lyft and B-Cycle will also offer special service to the event.

More than 250 groups participate in the Texas Folklife Festival, representing more than 40 cultures and celebrating Texas’ diverse heritage. Additional details, including hours and admission to the festival, are posted at TexasFolklifeFestival.org.
